hi... has anyone hooked up the power and ignition switch together from the deck to power, and have the deck heat up really quick? i've done it before and the deck worked fine. i'm not sure why cause when i hooked the power and ignition switch together to the yellow from the car harness nothing turned on but when i hooked them up to the red the deck powered up. yellow wire only has 1.7v and the red has 12v. anyone have any ideas? and also when the deck did start up the sub would pop when the deck was turned off. also the deck flashes on and off at times. very puzzled.
The YELLOW is your constant wire. IT doesn't have to be hooked up but you loose your presets everytime you shut the car off. The 1.7 v is residual from the capacitors in the internal amplifier. There is not problem hooking up the system this way ( I did it all the time ) just so you don't have to have a key in the ignition to play the stereo. The amplifier heats up regardless of the way you will have it hooked up unless you have too high af resistanmce from the speakers that is making the amplifier work harder. Normal operation is 4 ohms for the deck.

yah i know the amp in the deck would heat up, but it shouldn't after just 1 min. of operation. and only powering 2 speakers. everything was hooked up and working before, then taken back out and now putting it back in. hmm.... so YELLOW should be a constant 12v or 1.7v. cause the yellow is 1.7v. and the ignition is 12v. in the car. i usally connect everything to the yellow and it works but not this time. so i connected it to the RED (12v) in stead, and it powered up.
see its really wierd cause when i hooked everything the way its suppose to be hooked up. (yellow to yellow, red to red ground to ground) the deck doesnt power up. thats why i hooked yellow and red from the deck to the yellow from the harnes. didnt work. hooked it up to the red, powers up but flashes on/off then pops when power if being turned off (subs).
(The deck and alarm was installed professionally, they installed the alarm to the radio power or somthing like that. The harnes from the car has a wire tapped. very confused cause after callin it a night i discovered the alarm doesnt work anymore.)
thnx for any advice
Actually, unless you have an adaptor harness for the car , the colors seldom match the aftermarket wiring harness. What year, make & model car do you have ??

check the radio fuse in your car too
it may be blown and just sending a slight current through still so you get a 1.7V reading from the car side of the harness
