Higher amp wattage or lower is better?

What's better to have? An amp that is 1200 watt or an amp that is 720 watt? What is the difference? Would i be able to run my 2 12' Q Power 750 watt subs off a lower wattage amp? Becuase i had a Pioneer 720 watt amp hooked up to them until it was blown from bridging, now i have a 1400 watt pyle and the Pioneer hit MUCH harder why is that?

First thing is these are peak numbers, what you want to look at is rms or continous power. The second thing you need to look at is what ohm stability the amp has and how you have your speakers wired. You do not want to go lower on resistance/ohms than the amp is rated for. the amp will die...The Pioneer probably hit harder because either a you had it wired to 1ohm(which its not stable  @) or imo the pioneer is a far better amp than a "pile". I would suggest taking some time and reading up on how to wire the set-up properly and how to set the gains properly. There are several good posts on this site about this.

I believe this was covered in the last post you made about this amp, that pile has hugly inflated #'s

13.8 volts constant!(which will never happen unless you have a very nicly upgraded chargeing system)

40 amps of max current draw from the amp( notice the max in there!   this will be the max slightly before the fuses blow, which is about where the amp will blow!)

comes to a total of 552 watts at 100% efficency and everything working 100% perfect.   I have seen pile amps with effecieny of 60-70% at best on a 4 ohm load.
found this by doing basic tests with a clamp meter and volt meter on the line out's

This brings your RMS rating of 359 watts on a good day.....your pioneer amp was probably doing close to its reccomended 720RMS as it is actually a much better quality then this amp you currently have.



My suggestion to you is to wire it correctly.   No lower then a 4 ohm bridged load you will blow up the amp!!!!!!!!

Save you money for a quality amp like Kicker, JL,
db Drive is even decent brand!   fusion, soundstream.

I have even listed some lower end amps that are quite sturdy
