i want to run this

infinity REF1211A 1200w class D amp

CEA Rated Yes

with this

Pushing a single Infinity Kappa Perfect 12dvq or 10 dvq same specs

Sensitivity: 92dB

i was wondering if this was to much for the sub? or is it possible to wire it at 8 ohm?
would this amp be a better fit at 2 ohm. thanks

If your gonna use the REF1211A 1200w class D amp:

I would recommend that you wire the amp at an 8 ohm load. You can power a 100 watt rms sub with a 1000 watts rms amp. It just depends on your settings. Wiring at 2 ohms would be fine but when adjusting the settings on the amp, they may be more sensitive.

Just wire it up at 8 ohms. This should power that sub no problem. The sub's high sensitivity level doesn't require gobs of power to be loud.

but if i wire them up at 8ohm on that 1200w ref1211a wouldn't the rms be like 427? would it be better to get the 611a  model and run it a 2 ohm for 657 rms. i just want to know if im going to blow up my 500 dollar speaker by running a the 1211a.

If you break the thermal barrier of the sub by using an amplifier too large, yes you will destroy the sub. If you break the mechanical barrier of the sub by using an amp too large, yes it will destroy the sub. Do not use this combination unless you want to be buying a new sub. If you are going to be adding a additional identical sub, then I would choose the single voice coil 4 ohm driver. You need to read  this thread.

Agreed here! Your amp (and I am referring to the 1211) will not make as much power, true, but it will still be pretty PERFECTLY matched to the power handling capability of the woofer, anyway. This fact, added to the lower distortion, lower heat production, increased damping (for control), increased life expectancy of the amp... Those all add up to make perfect sense. Use the 8 ohm wiring option, set your gain PROPERLY, and be done with it.

Dude where do you live, I picked up my Kappas Perfect 12.1Ds for like 130 locally.... The only difference between the VQ ones is the Q is adjustable, which wont really matter if you build your box to spec anyways.

Dont pay that kind of money for those subs, or amp... Unless you live in antartica or something.

well im not paying retail i get the sub for 118 before shipping and the amp for 250, the thing is its a limited time thing so if blow my sub with the combo then i will get stuck paying fo it later. so in gernernal what are the advantages in wiring it up a 8 ohm oppossed to 2 ohm. i live in Vegas well maybe i should get the 12ds i would only pay 70 for it.  The thing is all this stuff is going into my girls 2006 mustang and she only wants one sub just to add little bass but i know when she hears it hit she will want it louder and to her dismay it will hit really hard.
