ok first here is all my info

i drive a 1992 cadillac eldorado, i bought my head deck new its a alpine cda-9833 had it professionally installed.   my  front speakers are the alpine spx-137r and my back speakers are alpine spr-69lp 6x9.. all those are new.  i bought a amp from a friend its a clarion 4 ch amp and a friend gave me a pair of rca's and i bought a pair of y adapters.

ok my question is how do i install my speakers to my amp. because when i connect my rcas to my front pre out on my head deck to my amp i dont get any sound out of my speakers. do i have to splice my speaker wires from my harness. or do i need to run the factory speaker to my amp.  when i tried my amp it went into protect mode. my friend told me that the amp works and i trust him. so i dont know and it is really bugging me. and i want to connect my crossover to my amp too to run my tweaters and my 5 1/4 door speakers also. im a total noob at this so be kind about it.  any help would be great.  i thank you

If you haven't installed the speakers yet you should test them right at the amp.  If they're installed, run new speaker wire to them directly from the amp.  Tape off the OEM speaker connectors.  Your four channel amp will power two sets of speakers and you should use the high pass crossover either on the amp or on the deck.  If you're not getting any output you should look to see that the deck controls are set right, that the amp is powered on, and the amp is wired correctly.  Keep in mind that you should test, then install.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
