I have heard conflicting info regarding changing the headunit one of these. Is is possible to use a chime box, or does the factory radio have to be reinstalled in the back? What exactly runs through the factory radio?

You can use a metra gmrc-01, you won't need the fact. radio in the car then and chimes still work.

Use PAC part # OS2 & CM1 for chime retention and On-Star. If you do not have On-Star use C2R-GM24 for chime retention. If you remove the OEM radio you will most like loose the keyless entry & alarm options from factory as well as the door chime and you may loose some of the following: Vehicle Customization Menu Options: ( Most Cavaliers, Sunfires and other base models do not offer most, if any of these features. Check the vehicle owner’s manual to see available features. ) Displays current settings Oil life monitor reset Tire inflation monitor reset Delayed headlamp illumination Automatic door lock and unlock Remote visual/audible verification of remote lock/unlock Enable/Disable content theft Enable/Disable trunk lock shock sensor Short or long horn with remote lock/unlock Key fob transmitter programming

I am thinking it has all of that stuff, as its an SS model and the owner said something about tire inflation going through the radio. If that is the case, what is the best way to tackle it?

Jeff will you loose the features if you use the gmrc-01? It doesn't work with bose, onstar or monsoon systems. I have a '02 monty coming in friday for a cd player and I was planning on using this metra kit?
