Currently i have an Alpine cda-9835 and is awesome, i love everything about it. But ive had it for 2 years now and I want to upgrade. The new HU's look nice but i dont really like fact that the got rid of the motor face plates. i know theres abunch of new ones. but i dont know which would be as good as what i have or better. Im looking at the 9857,9860, 9861. whats everyones opinion?

Eh, diff units maybe? Personally not a fan of Alpine's HU right now. Ontop of ridiculously complex to figure out(without a manual its pretty much a waste of time) they are just eh... If you really wanna stick with Alpine It comes down to DVD or CD use. That'll eliminate a certain crowd of them. Otherwise maybe look elsewhere? Really just kinda personal blehness on them right now. Of course I can't even RECOMMEND anything because most of the stuff I am currently exposed to sufficiently blows. Eclipse is already suffering in quality since they went to Circuit.

Eclipse is still a nice product though.  It would be a good idea to look into Eclipse because they have some nice sound quality.

That's my opinion. Take it, leave it, or correct me.

I also own a 9835, unless your looking for a serious upgrade like the IVA-D310, stick with what you have.

The new Eclipse 7000 deck looks really nice. But, I kind of want to keep things with alpine because every accessory I have is for an Alpine deck (ipod interface, xm etc). I was reading up on the new Alpine decks and now i dont think i want it. Why? 2v preouts. That sucks.

I'm sorry but ingeneral new Alpine equip(HU atleast) are worthless as hell IMO. Not really a big fan of anyone actually. If someone finds a HU that truly impresses you please let me know and why... (Eclipse is currently not going to ever go in my car again after the exp I've had)

The ONLY one I would consider is the 9861. It's the only deck in this years line that would be a sonic improvement over your 9835. It has the 4 volt outputs AND the 24 bit Burr Brown DAC.

I have the DVA-9860. I haven't had any problems with it yet.  The only thing I don't like about it is its not user friendly.  I have had it since it came out and still don't know how to use it.  I wish the DVA-9861 was out when I went to get a new head unit.  I have my DVA-9860 hook up to the MRA-F350 theater amp.

From what it sounds like an "upgrade" isn't likely so I'd say stick with what you have.  I have the 9833, same thing except for the display, and I don't see any reason at all to change.   Saves money, time, and learning the new layout.

I've never owned an Alpine before, but I just put an IVA-W200 in my truck. I really like it. The iPod Fullspeed interface works very well. It's not as nice as the native iPod UI, but it is very usable. If it had support for Genre, I think I would have no complaints at all. I have almost 5000 tracks on my iPod and navigating to specific artist/album/tracks is very quick - unlike what I've heard about the previous gen Alpine/iPod interface. The overall ease of use is, I think, very good. The UI is not at all clunky and non-intuitive like the regular single-DIN Alpine head units I've seen. Like I said, I've never had an Alpine before and I didn't have to open the Owner's Manual at all to do everything I want with AM/FM, DVD, iPod, or XM.

Anyway, the 2V preouts don't bother me as my next step in my upgrade path is going to include a PXA-H701. My W200 for $800 from SavingLots.com and a 701 off eBay for $350 or so totals up to a system that looks good, has all the bells and whistles I want, top-shelf sound quality, and a reasonable price (IMO).

I don't think there is anything wrong with this years line up, i have the 9856 and for what i spent on it, it goes above and beyond. I wasn't a big fan of last years stuff but i think they improved since last year.

Well i think ive made up my mind, if i do upgrade im going to go with the eclipse cd7000 because of all its features  and things it go do, or the cd5000 because of the 8v pre outs. i will have to change my accessories aswell, ipod interface and xm to sirius. but thats ok. ill probably even get the GPS device. does anyone know how good the ipod interface is for eclipse? is it better then alpines?

I think everybody else's iPod interface is pretty much like Alpine's first gen iPod interface. Alpine's 2nd gen interface (FullSpeed - in the 2006 HU's) is WAY better.
