Right now, I have a Lanzar 1,000 watt amp that is running two RF HE2 Punches. I want to upgrade them to Audiobahn AW1200V. My HE2's get roughly 200-250 watts, and these audiobahn's run from 50-700 RMS with 1400 peak. The HE2's are too weak for the Lanzar, so my question is, if the amp is turned all the way down now, how hard would it be to replace them with the audiobahn's, and if I turn my amp up with them (I have a Chevy Cavalier), would I need another power source, such as a deep cycle battery or another alternator? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated :)

Are the new subs 4 ohm? SVC or DVC? is the amp mono?

What do you mean by "turning the amp up or down"? I kinda suspect from the way you said it that you didn't set the amp gains "by the book" (which we preach on this forum daily). If you did, you wouldn't have to reset the gains when switching subs because there is no change taking place in the signal path. The gains on the amp are set according to the output of the deck. The HE2's are not likely too weak for the Lanzar amp. That is the output that will be achieved with just about any other 12" subs. You might achieve something greater if you were to make a change in the sub box. The amp will try to pull a certain amount of power from the alt/battery regardless of what rating the subs have, as long as the amp is powered up, the subs are connected to the amp output and the amp is getting a signal. It will not try to pull more power if you change the subs unless you load it with a lower impedance load. That's why the question of what configuration they are asked above. ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

upgrade the amp !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would not consider trading RF subs for audiobahn an upgrade. the RMS power of that amp is far less then what those subs can handle. also a subwoofer needs to be in the correct enclosure"box". . from your post i take it you are new to car audio. your looking for more SPL ? . i would upgrade you amp and build a slot ported enclosure to spec. those are dual 4 ohm subs . so take a look at woofer wiring. and for the power ? what engine is in your cavalier >?

I agree, get rid of the amp and save the world from Audiobahn at the same time. You will go much further in your quest for good tunes by changing the box and purchasing a new amp. Keep the subs, they are a far better bet than the audioburns. Think of this, you can have the biggest and most powerful subs in the world, however, even if they are 10000 watts each, they will only put out what you can give them from the amp.

Yes, I am new, and my configuration I have now someone else did for me. They kept my amp turned all the way down, I was told that it would melt my subs or my car down if I turned it up. I was also told that the HE2's were not good enough for the amp I had, which is supposed to be competition, because I went to a friend to get a new amp and wanted his input and he wouldn't even consider changing my amp. I just want to do it myself instead of someone jerking me around, and I thought this would be a good place to get an unbiased opinion.

Opinions are always biased, some are colored more than other depending on the experience of the person responding to you. That said though, stick around and ask lots of questions. For starters, welcome to the forum. Next up, when you post and are looking for some info, give us as much info as we can get as well. Things like the year / make / model vehicle, the size of wire used, model #'s of the equipment, what kind of box the subs are in etc. These little tidbits of information can help us to make a much more educated recommendation on the things that you should upgrade and what order to upgrade in.

It would be best to post the model numbers of your equipment so this forum can get a look. You are right to learn the basics and this forum can set you on the right path. You need to do the following: - Look at the wiring on the subs themselves and match it to a wiring diagram. Use "woofer wiring" seen in the left column. When you state the sub model # we can then see what impedance load is being put on the amp.
- Learn to set the amp gain. We'll help you with that, but first give up the info I asked for.
