I am installing a plug in my center console (fiberglass project) so that all the electronics mounted in the console can be quickly disconnected for console removal.  One of the components in the console is an XM SkyFi2 unit, and one of the wires I'd like to add to the plug is the antenna.

Can this be cut and spliced without effecting operation?  It's a round wire, but is there two lines inside?

Anyone ever had to do something like this?

I would not recommend cutting it, theres more than one wire inside (just two though I think) but Ive never heard of good results with trying to splice these.  My recommendation would be to go buy an extension (bestbuy and radio shack should both have them) and use that as your point to disconnect.

I didn't know that extensions were available, I'll look into that.  Thanks!

Yeah iffy if you are trying to extend it. But to repair and not change the length is not a problem.

I wasn't planning on changing the length, although it's not an RF antenna, so length shouldn't matter anyway, right?  I want to run it through a plug I am installing.
