Now I know this is just completely over the top and I would never do it, but I am curious about the effects considering the top race cars in the world are using Nitrogen in their tires because of its properties.
What would the ramifications be from using a gas like Nitrogen instead of air in a sealed enclosure?

I doubt it would make any difference at all. The reason they use nitrogen in tires is to control air pressure with increased heat. These temperatures are very extreme, much hotter than what you will see in a sub enclosure.

I imagine the nitrogen gas would diffuse through the woofer cone membrane and in short order the box would eventually contain air, as air would replace it also by diffusing through the membrane. Ported would be out of the question, eh? ;)
------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

That's awesome.
"Your car did 157... well my fridge hits 173."
From what that article says, it sounds like the world record holders (178db?) should be sealing off their car/truck/van and filling them with helium to hit bigger numbers.

I'd suggest hydrogen instead. Much more well... fun... Just dont be too close to it when you start bumping ------------- 99 Blazer LT. Yellow Top. Big 3. Infinity Kappa Speakers All Around. the world record is measured at 180+ db on one of the most accurate meters is the world. The B&K meter
any industry would not even pay other testing to come see how lous they are maving noise at....therefore they are useing an A weighted meter.
Furthermore. An A weighted meter reads aprox 17-24 decibles off from a non-weighted meter like the term-lab or audiocontol 190...both of which are the same design use as Nasa to measure space shutle takeoff's!
so the 173 becomes 156-149db.......been there done that.......see the vid clips on my site. haha
You know I had to step in, one im drinking, two I am the resident of SPL/loud, 3 im drinkng
