Hey,

I have someone willing to buy my W7 12" for 400 dollars, im looking to keep a system that is fairly balanced between SPL and SQ.

i have the trunk space for an adequate box with 2 12"s but would prefer to stay with 1 single 12" any suggestions on what to do?

any subs i should look @ That will rival the W7 in performance?

It sounds like you are looking to replace the W7 with a W7. Why not just keep it?

Sounds to me like you could use a MTX 8500 or 9500. You can use this link  https://www.mtx.com/Flash2/volume_displacement.cfm to compare mtx subs to other competition thats on the market. happy hunting. Honestly though since you already have the W7, id hang on to that. Its a great sub and really is hard to beat. If you arent happy with the way it sounds, build a different box. That can make a world of difference.

Man you would not believe the subs I heard today, didnt really get a chance to look into them further until probably Saturday to investigate more.  Not a big brand thus far, but are called Titanium Power, have you heard of them?  Man it was 2 12" subs in a slot ported box WOW wasnt in a car as it was a display, but I swear those darn things shook every single thing in that room!!!!  LoL, they sell for $145 each, if you are interested in more info, just let me kno on a PM as I am heading back over there Saturday to fill in the blanks.

Keep in mind that the link above is pure marketing designed to make MTX's subs look good.  Also keep in mind that there is more to a subwoofer than output, just like there is more to a car than it's peak horsepower.

MTX isnt always the winner. Sure im a MTX fan, but I do like alpine, eclipse and JL a lot too. You are right though. There is always more factors to buying a sub than just its output. It all depends on the situation and vehicle its going in.

i had to fight with a lot of my good friends when MTX Released that propoganda. anyway Steven The other "semi" pertinent info is this.

sub will get ~800 Watts RMS (unsure of amp but wanna stick in this range) box will be vented and sized to match the sub as best that i can... now as someone will point out, the SQ of a vented box is not as good (generalization). Yeah im aware of that but i need to have the boom still just because 1 12" that can outdo or keep even with 4 12"s just in the "seat of the pants mic" still makes me warm and fuzzy inside.

I dunno what to do. it seems like the W7 really is the best for my wants.

That volume displacement chart of mtx is based on theory, in the real world things would be different depending on the instal. if you compare 2 10" 9500 with 2 12" 7500 on that MTX Volume Displacement the winner will be the 2 10" 9500 series by 0.5dB, i know that the different of 0.5dB isn't audible, but they should be as loud if you compared them based on the result of that MTX prog.

Wel i've test that, i had 2 10" 9500 dvc in 1 cuft each sealed enclosure power by the mtx ta81001 at 1ohm giving them 1500wrms it was very loud for two 10's in sealed enclosure. but when i tested 2 12" 7500 svc in a sealed enclosure 1cuft each power by the same amp but at 2ohm, giving them like 800wrms the 2 12" 7500 where way louder that the 9500 series. and that was 800wrms against 1500wrms so there's come efficient in play. i mean if 800 wrms are louder than a setup with 1500 wrms which one would you choose?
i wouldn't trust that program of MTX.

i dunno i just got 2 12" JLW3v3's n them joints are nice. They are out already at least in VA. Gotm on sale too for like a ball senventy eech. I haven't heard the v2's. I'm only pushin bout 460W to them and they hit hard and clean. By the way neone kno of a good amp to push 600RMS or so that these speakers call for. Not lookn for sumthin too exspensive either. The W7's are nice but they are way pricey.

I talked with my local friendly installer about the 8W7s and he said they are quite a dissapointment. I was thinking about getting 4 of them and he said its not worth the cash. I already have 2 mtx 8500 12" subs and apparently those are my best bet right now. Im thinking your best bet is to stick with the W7s and build a different box to suite your liking.

nah the box is quite to my liking, actually i like the box a whole lot.

i was thinking maybe the 8W7 in the back deck.. but @ 20lbs it'd be weird on the structure on the car.

hmm looks like im staying with the W7

i have two 8ohm v3's. i havem wired for 4 ohms 3.8 to xact. nice speakers in my opinion. im more of a sq than spl guy so they are impressive to me. i had 2 12W0 b4 these so its deff a step up from that. to the guy who is tryn to get the 8 would scratch that idea dood. I would stick with wat u got. and u aint gotta spend no money 2 do it.

not going to spend any money, except to buy the amp to push whatever sub i get.

thats why im asking in the first place,

i need to buy the amp im going to power the sub with (whichever subs i get)

i had a JBL 1200.1 and i should have never gotten rid of that amp. it was my favorite amp... i cant afford too much because of the undertaking of my front door project, and the fact that im a poor college kid.. around 300 dollars would be the max i could spend on an Amp and Wires for it.

saturn, let me know what amp model # you are looking for, I might be able to help you out.  OR give me some ideas of what you want in watts range, and tell me some companies to exclude.  For sure nothing that is like PYLE or stupid brands like that, that dont even make good amps.  I might be able to get you the amp cheaper, just let me know by tomorrow morning before about 10 11 or so Pacific time.

You had the GTO1201.1 II? It was a good amp? Likes dislikes?

nah,i had the BP1200.1 thta is the model of it, i think it was a while ago i bought it,

It was all black with a silver JBL Logo in the middle, im like 90% sure it was a BP1200.1

I really liked that amp, should have never sold it, but such is the game.. sold the stereo to turbo the car then decided it was too much a PITA to have a turbo car. so now im rebuilding the stereo.
