batteries

I am going to be running 2 JL 1000/1 amps and was wondering if I needed 2 or 1 battery to run these? I would be runnign a 450/4 amp on my main battery (a4 05.5 stock battery) and a 120 amp alternator. Is it possible to have the extra two batteries stand alone and charge them with a car battery charger? also how long would these batterys stay charged? thanks

and you might need a bigger alternator for 2 1000/1's and a 450/4

2 batteries on no alternator?    you cant run batteries without an alternator.

you really only need a single gel cell batteri like a kinetik or optima, and a high output alternator

2 batteries and a stock 120A Alternator and 2 JL 1000/1, doesn't sound good you'll need a HO Alternator, 2 batteries wont help you out they will steal more current from your Alt to get charged, means more current for the batteries, less for the Amps.

it is possible, but...just get a High Output Alternator and you'll be happy.

Simply answered... NO

Well, do the math...

AmpHour capacity of the battery, divided by the current drain (in amps), will give you APPROXIMATELY the time (in hours) that the battery will run, to terminal voltage (usually 10.8v, I think)

Example: if you have a 100AH battery (which is fairly typical) And a 100A drain (each of those 1000W amps will pull that, easily), that battery (if PERFECT, and in a perfect world) will run that amp for ABOUT 1 hour. The first time. The next time, even less, and less the next time, and less the time after that...

You CANNOT drain lead acid batteries like that, and expect them to live very long at all... Even deep cycle batteris ("Yellow Tops") cannot take that abuse for very long. My suggestion? Upgrade your alternator (which BTW, is PART of the Big 3) with the biggest one you can jam under the hood, and then add a second battery if necessary.
