sub-woofer problem

I am running two 10" Black Magic subs. recently, one of them is making a rattling noise even when i run it at normal volumes. Im using a Sony XM-5540F 4 channel power amp to run subs. What is going on with that sub? is it in the early stages of blowing?

That depends.  The rattling could be the amplifier clipping.  Clipping can sound oddly mechanical.  However since it is still there even at lower volume levels, I suspect that the coil has come detached from the former due to too much heat burning off the glue holding the coil together.  Try pulling the subs out and smelling the pole vent in the back of the subs.  If the latter is true, then the burnt voice coil smell should be very evident.

either that or i actually had a w7 come unglued and the same things were happening. after seeing the cone comming apart from mechanical section i gently seperated the two and later came out to find that out of a 3 inch circle where glue can be adheared they used drips and draps so one day i was bassin out and all of sudden sub stopped pounding and at any volume you heard highspeed plastic or pvc which the cone is made out of banging against the spot were it was supposed to be glued.. now all i did was clean the area, and do these steps., Used pvc primer clear on both sides the cone and the mounting area, then used acetone to make sure both areas were free and clear of debris, then reprimed it so that the surface will accept the glue the best then i used plumbers goop as the adhesive. then applied some weight (very carefully with a some material protecting sub and keeping it from lifting and seperating during the glue drying process) to top of sub for over two days so that the cone would have no excuse to come apart as goop is one of the strongest adhesive i have ever used.i have to tell you there is a big difference in the way the sub sounds. now. better. so my problem was a bad job on jl for using so little glue. on a spot that is so dependent on it.
