Kicker L7 Sub Box Ideas

I have 2 15" L7's and I'm planning on building a new box for them.  I want a vented box to get the most bang out of them.  I want to be able to compete in db drag comps. at least at the amuter. level.  I have a 95 nissan pathfinder, and pushing them with a Mark Anthony 3000D monoblock amp. right now I'm hitting 152.6 db.  Kicker said I need 5 cubic feet per sub and 50 sq inch vent per sub.  other people have told me 4 ft per. does anyone have any experince with a 5 cubic ft box with these subs?  also whats the formula to find to find the size measurments for any given box? I know the volume formula (L x W x H) but what is it for knowing the volume I need, just help with the size measurements? Thanks for any help..

Your already doing 152.6 in db drag?   or on another type of meter?    If your doing a 52.6 thats qualifing scores from world finals.

I'd say build the biggest box that will fit in your pathfinder.

If Kicker is telling you to go a direction with their subs, I'd be inclined to listen. They technically have the most experience with'em, ya know?

 Yeah.  On Sept. 24, 05 I went to a car show hosted by Street Trenz Mag. in wilmington DE.  and I wasn't there to compete but after looking around my friends talked me in to entering and so I paid the 25 bucks and pulled into the lane and they put a mic/ sensor thing that was hooked up to a computer on the passanger side measured it off with a piece of wood,, closed the door and gave me 30 seconds to turn it up and see what I had.  It came up to 152.6 db, I won first place and got my very first trophy in my life (for anything,I never got one before) its the only one I have.  you can check out my truck at  www.cardomain.com , I don't know the number so you'll have to search it under my username which is Dspoppa,(same as here).  It was the first and only db drag I've been in and now I'm trying to get into it, but I don't know that much about it.  When I went to a local shop here in Baltimore MD. (Audio Connection) I had it metered with their RTA machine and it came out to 151.9 and that was with the sub output turned down to neg. 6 on my head unit(Pieoneer DEH-80mp). If you guys could check my truck and tell me what classes I fit in to that would be great!! "Jeffchilcott"  you really think I could have a shot at qualifying at the world finals??  That would be awsome!! Theres a show in July at US Audio in Glen burnie MD (about 20 miles from me) so I'll have to see about competing in that. Thats the only one I know of around here, anyone know of any others? I didn't know I had a shot like that!!

That is a really really good score for (2) 15L7's

Here is my advice,    switch tem to 12L7's    They do much much better!   trust me!     Reply back with you amps odels #'s   and how many batterys you have and I can tell you what class you would be in

Do the 12L7's tend to reach a higher dB? I figured the 15L7's would for sure be louder.

The 12's do better for a few reasons.    

1) Able to work well for SPL in smaller enclosure then the 15L7's

2) Able to reach a higher excursion then the 15L7 when overpowered in SPL burps.

3) Able to handle repeted burps during SPL runs without the cone cracking as easily as the 15's do.

We have tested with the 10's 12's and 15's   The 15's were the worst, the 12's have been the best and the 10's are not much further behind the 12's.

this comes straight from kicker. try 6 cu ft, with port 3.5 wX16.25 H X13.75L. you wont be dissapointed.I have built all of the kicker boxes from there specs and they rock. if you want SPL this is what you want
