Wuzzup everyone i recently went to a shop so they can fabricate a ported box for my 2 tens took them 2 days i gave them the specs sheet and everything i know for a fact that this shop knows what theyre doing. well after i broke my sealed box i decided to try this and upgrade. well i pop in the subs and connect everything now i pop in my  E40 cd and the song i was listening to before dindt hit as low. before i would flex the roof of my car with a sealed box and now its nothing. dont get me wrong because i do feel that i got a lot more spl but not in the lower end.

since i went from sealed to ported do i need to retune my settings on my EQ and headunit or is this box a dud.

looks ok, however its all wood, i guess those guys were busy, because two days to make that is a lot. you must have a week roof if your flexing your roof with two tens. i have two 13w7's and i can even do that. shoot i even got a hyundai. however. a ported box generally hits lower notes. than a sealed box. maybe those speakers just prefer a sealed box.

Disconnect one sub only and see if it is magically louder. If it is then one sub is wired backwards, called out of phase. This results in a loss of bass energy.

What model subs and amp are you using?

Did you set your gain properly before you got the new box? If not, the installer may have set your gains correctly which would explain why you are noticing a difference.

Or maybe it's the tuning Hz of the box? what is the tuning Hz?

well i was listening to some more cds to test out this box and nope the deep bass i was loking for wasnt what i was expecting. the deep bass is there but it seems that is doesnt play as loud I know that something is wrong it seems that my sub strugles more with this box. there are some notes that it plays beautifully and loud and good i would say around 65-80hz. I was thinking it was the tunning on the port i dont know what it is tunned to.  the port size is    11, 1/2 tall  1, 1/2 wide and 9 inches deep.

do you guys think its a good idea to play with the port like making it longer to change the tunning freq.        Thank you all for your good help.

Did you actually set the gain before you got the new box or just have the knob turned all the way up?

no i have the same gain that i had with my  sealed box the only thing i messed with was with the eq. I im having doubts that the problem might be in the ports

did you double check your gain, your SubSonic Filter and your crossover?

yes i did. I even turned off the x-over and set the amp to full pass so the box can play all the tones and i get the same result.  Ive played with the bass boost but i dont like to use that so its set to 0.

what subs are those?
maybe they arent made to go into a ported enclosure and are having trouble with the lack of internal box pressure.

We can determine the right length of the port once we know the sub specs.

well i decided to take a real close look at it by using the box making program winisd. if you think the parameters might help here they are

fo(hz)=27            Qms=3.16                  Qes=0.43              Qts=0.38             Vas(liters)=44        EBP=57              Xmax=26mm

well what is your boxed tuned to?

Going by the port dimentions given (11.5 x 1.5 x 9 deep) and guessing the volume at one cube, WinISD says the tuning freq is 60Hz. The curve rolls off pretty hard after that, with a -3db at about 47Hz. That would explain the poor low bass response. I don't know how much you'll be able to improve the box without totally rebuilding it.

I was assuming there is an internal divider in the box, correct?

bassrider- Can you give us the external measurements of the box?

Correct me if I am wrong but considering you went from sealed (typically harder hitting) to a ported( not as hard on solid drum but goes much lower with usually higher SPL) wouldn't you need to adjust the amp to account for the new box? Also, a ported box requires less power to push the subs because of less resistance right? I could be talking out my butt but sounds like the EQ and amp have not been fully tuned for the new box.

yes i did try forbiden's suggestion. thats what i thought at first but that wasnt it. I have been looking into this a lot and i think that  fakepete might be on the right track.  one of my theory'sposted_imageis that the shop made me a box specifically for spl and not music listening something like that.

anyway heres the box dimensions<a href="https://photobucket.com"><img src="https://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j205/kuntakinteylok/untitled.jpg" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

Well call and ask them how they built the box and what they did in the design.

well i went back to the shop that built my boxand they told me that the box wax actually built for spl competitons for burps and test tones and they told me that they didnt recomend for it for plating music because they can hurt my woofers.  but i told them that i didnt want it because i wasnt satisfied and they gave me something i didnt want and they were cool and offered me some free neons for my footwells and they also gave me a eazy fix for my box they but me some custom pieces of MDF so that i stuck it in the ports and change the tunning freq and it did now i am happy im amazed.  MAN my system KICKS ass. i didnt know that i can get that much outta these woofers now i can actually set alarms off     COOL.

Thanks to all youguys that put into the subject seeya.
