I am sure somebody here has changed out a cd player on one of these. I have not yet. I had a guy call today to get a quote to get this done he told me another shop told him you have to re-wire the entire car for an aftermarket head unit($300), is this accurate. Does the 70-2103 harness from metra work? Any tips or tricks would be great.....Thanx

Jer, there are two versions out on the market ( at least in Canada ) there's one that has the LAN vehicle diagnostics on the lower portion of the dash kit ( https://www.scosche.com/scosche_caraudio.aspx?ItemID=GM1593B&CategoryID=5 ) and then there's the ones without it ( looks more like a Chevy Equinox , but only taller by about 1/2" ).  ( https://www.scosche.com/scosche_caraudio.aspx?CategoryID=5&ItemID=GM1587B )

There have been some talk if the vehicle does not see the deck plugged in, it may cause problems. The Cobalt does not have a starter wire at the key cylinder. It uses the same style of security as the Ion, Canyon, Colorado and Pursuit. This same information goes through the factory deck. The vehicle will not start after an extended period of time. I have installed one of the GM1587B's into a Cobalt without the LAN system integrate vehicle diagnostics on the lower part of the dash kit and the customer is still driving without problems after 4 months so far........

It looks like they are just going with the LOC for the subs. Customer didn't want to spend any money to get a new cd player installed and I can't afford to pay for it for them if you know what I mean.

unless you have the lan stuff built into your head unit, no rewiring is necessary, its a straight forward install.
