Hey Guys,
I was doing some work last night to a friends Jeep, he has a JVC HU, model KD-AR560. It was hooked up to shatty Sony speakers, which were horrible. We picked up some Audiobahn AS50Q 5.25" speakers and installed them last night. Now the manual was confusing as far as the polarity goes, so I did a speaker test 1st to determine + and - on the speakers. I made sure the cone moved up when I did the test. I tested the internal wires in the Jeep as well, all gave me a nice reading so I can 99% sure that these are wired correctly.
Anyway, we turned on the stereo and noticed that the dome light, and the floor lights were blinking slightly. We turned it up a little more to see how it sounds, and BAM...the speakers shut off with each bass note when the volume is above 27. I've never seen this with speakers before, usually with amps. So I decided to run a new ground for the headunit. I ran a 12ga ground for the HU, which seemed to help a little bit, but it is still doing it. I think it is the HU, but I wanted to see if you guys could please shed some light on this for me and tell me what my next step should be. We can get the volume to 30 now, higher if we lower the bass settings on the HU, and turn LOUD off. Any ideas would be great.

What you are describing is not clipping, it is amplifier overload. Sounds like your speakers are too low impedance for the amplifier (outboard amp OR head unit amp.) ------------- Support the12volt.com

Standard HU, and the speakers are 4ohm, so what's the issue then? I don't get it really. I have no idea why the HU would be overloaded just running 4 speakers.

Could be defective speakers, or a bad wiring job. Something is shorting out and overloading the HU. ------------- Support the12volt.com

I guess it would be the speakers then, as the Sony's that came out didn't do that at all. I checked all the wiring, and tired each speaker individually, it only cuts out when all 4 speakers are connected. If I fade all the way front or rear it doesn't do it anymore. Annoying speakers shouldn't be this much of a pain.

Could be overloading the amp cuz the LOUD is turn on AND the BASS is turned up.
