Currenty I have a 2005 PT Cruiser GT Turbo convertible with an Pioneer DEHP-660 head unit with an output of 50w x4 running the factory speakers. Which include 4- 6" round speakers.  My question is, if I add the following  amplifier and run the speakers from there, is that a better setup than currently or should I get another amplifier. This car is a convertible and its about volume and quality.  A speaker upgrade is also a possibility, Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have a MRP-F240 Apline 4channel amplifier with  the following specs

40 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms
>50 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms
>100 watts RMS x 2 bridged output at 4 ohms
>2-, 3-, or 4-channel output
>4-ohm stable in bridged mode
>Tri-Way capable
>requires 10-gauge power and ground leads ? wiring and hardware not included
>with amplifier
>selectable high-pass/low-pass crossover at 80 Hz, 18 dB/octave (2 separate
>crossovers, one for channels 1 & 2, another for channels 3 & 4)
>subsonic filter at 15 Hz for channels 3 & 4
>tuned Bass EQ (0-12 dB bass boost at 50 Hz)
>preamp outputs
>MOSFET power supply
>STAR Topology (minimizes internal noise and prevents ground interference)
>speaker- and preamp-level inputs
>gold-plated screw terminals
>9-1/2"W x 2-5/16"H x 10-1/2"D

Thanks, Matt

I would upgrade in this order. New front speakers > new rear speakers (or both at the same time) > add an amp (like the Alpine you mentioned).

The factory speakers can't really handle the power the Alpine amp would be sending them, and it probably wouldn't sound much better (if any at all). Buy some good speakers first and have your cd player's amp power them, and then upgrade to an amp if you need more volume (which you probably do since it's a convertible).
