i have a 1001bd power punch amp, i had it pushing 2 12' l5 solobarics and it sounded good... now i have purchased a w7 but the box that it came with looks too small it is heavy as hell but it is too small i dont know the dimesions but it looks half of the size of the solobarics box.. well i connected today and it sounds alright but it sounds like it needs more power, but the thing is that a while back i had that amp connected to 4 12 mtx 8000 and that amp busted all four of them i need to know should i use a bigger box, and also if there is a specific way i should wire the sub i know it is 3 ohm but i dontknow if it is a dual voice coil..

what size W7 is it? the 12" or 13.5".

also i have found that JL audio knows what to build as far as the boxes on their site,

what box did it come in? and 500 watts (true watts not fake advertised watts) is more than sufficient for a W7.

if you have the 12" it is a Single voice coil and 3ohms is where your stuck
if its the 13.5" you've got dual 1.5ohm VC's

Single 3 ohm coil, I'm thinking you need to address your box, like Saturn said, go to JL's websight.

mines the same way...probally the jl power wedge box. but i have the same problem it seems like its not getting enough power. i was told by a friend that you cant really experience a w7 unless u put it in a jl h.o. box. im working on dimensions for a slot ported box so ill get back to you on how that gose.

on that note i should probally tell you guys im using a diamond audio d6 1500.1 amp im actually thinkin of getting rid of this amp for a hifonics BXi 2006D if my calculations are correct it should power the w7 some where between 650-1000 watts which should be enough for the w7 this is the amp https://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=4200

this is the amp im currently using https://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=2697

a JL 500/1 is enough to power a 12W7 so I don't really know whats up here. Could be the box. Could be the amp. Could be the settings.

im tempted ot say a well built box of any kind is acceptable, i prefer ported myself however sealed is also nice

and azn is correct a JL 500/1 amp is plenty of power.

methinks its the box thats giving you trouble so again i'll recommend that you go to JLAudio's site and look at their suggestions for a box.

or if you are feeling daring check out WinISD or other software and see what you can build.

Try putting the specs into WINISD and put the box volume in there...See what it is supposed to sound like...Just a suggestion...Then you can mess around with numbers and get it however you like.

Well check the minimum box volume needed...those w7s have a pretty big frame and magnet assemble so take that into consideration.
