5x7" which with the simple mounting template adaptor, can be made to fit a oversize 6.5" with ease.

I have 6x8's all around in my explorer...5x7s and 6x8s look like they have the same mounting ring size though...weird.

I was gonna get some Alpine 5x7's but went ahead and got some Kenwood 6x8s.

I have a 94 tbird and it is all 5 x 7 and seems like now all the 6 x 8 and 5 x 7 are interchangable and fit each other.  I am wanting to go to 6.5 components so lil' mods are soon to happen.

forbidden is correct the mustang has 5 x 7's all around, althought I would rather go with mounthing plates and 6.5s like he suggested.

i actually  just took them out and i think they are 5x7's ....they look to small for 6x8's..... i was wanting to put a nice set of 4 way 6x9's.

u think it would be a easy conversion cutting the sheet metal?

also some of u sugested 6.5's do they make plates for that or would i have to make them?

any recomendations on 5x7's

thanks in advance to everyone and to everyone who replied in the beggining posted_image

The terms 6 x 8 and 5 x 7 are interchangable when talking about speakers.  They are most commonly used in Fords, but some other automakers use them as well.  If you do go with 6 x 9's, I would cut some spacers to make them fit rather than the sheetmetal.  Don't buy into the "more-is-better" hype about 3 or 4 way speakers if they're not components.  All that means is you'll have 2 or 3 tweeters instead of one, which won't sound very natural.

However I recommend going with 6.5's as well.  If you go with oversized 6.5's you'll need to make the sides wider on your adapter plates.
