I have a 99 Deville and i'm installing a new Nakamichi head unit in it that i purchased. I need to know a couple of things.

a) since the steering wheel has all the volume/temperature controls on it, do i have to take any special precautions when hooking up the wire harness? I know that these controls can't hook up to the HU and function, but the reason i ask is because my brother has a 93 olds cultass supreme and Circuit city installed an Alpine HU to it, but when he turns the key in the ignition the steering column starts smoking. He has the same kind of thing with the Vol/Temp controls on his steering wheel. Was it Circuit City for doing a crap install or is it the wiring harness?

b) since i got a new HU i need to replace factory speakers. I chose JBL's but haven't purchased them yet. I need to know if anybody can tell me the allowed mounting depth on the 99' Deville in the front and in the back without doing modification to the body. The front speaker should be a 6.5 RD and the read 6x9's, but i can't find their appropriate mounting depths anywhere. i hope someone can hook me up.

c) lastly, i can't figure out how to remove the darn panels on the thing. I've done several installs in my life but this one is tricky. it has no visible screws or bolts to remove the paneling on the doors. Anybody have an idea?

I really appreciate the help!

a. Have you contacted Circuit City yet about the problem?  This is a safety issue and needs to be dealt with promptly.  If you're unable to find the problem, have a mechanic or auto electician take a look.  Do this before something bad happens.

b. You can find the speaker depths listed on www.mobiletoys.com.

c. See if this site has your vehicle listed: https://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremoval.htm.
