where to mount tweeters?

i have a ford f-150. i have one tweeter per door. i was wondering where is the best sound qaulity and good looking spot to put my tweeter. here is a pic i found of an f-150 door. i was thinking of putting it in one of those two spots. so would it be better to put my tweeter in the lower spot by the speaker or the higher spot by the mirror? thanks

In the pillars along side your windshield aiming to the center of the glass. Adjust the crossover as low as it will go for the tweet. there should be a little switch in the crossover depending on the brand that will have (for example) -3db and -6db etc...

Wrong... hate to say it like that, but that's wrong... The tweeter should ALWAYS go as close as you can POSSIBLY get it to the midbass... I won't be the only person to tell you that, either.

I agree, the tweeter needs to be as close as possible to the midrange. I would suggest, with the room you have under the speaker grill, mounting it there or build a bridge over the midrange like a coaxial.

All i know is that is what the install sheet that has come with all of my focal speakers has told me. Why would you want it way down on the floow being blocked by your legs? Building a bridge over a speaker is not the brightest idea. Did that sheet from Focal tell you to mount them HIGH away from the mids? I really doubt it. And a coax is not a bad design, it's a fix for a certain problem thats all. -------------

well i wasnt planning on building a bridge. pretty much just putting my tweeter where the grey one is in the pic or the black. the grey tweeter area is not coompletly blocked by my leg either. its just above my thigh. but more opinions are helpful. thanks guys

Killer, Im not going to say your set up is wrong, but its a fact that midbass/midrange and tweeters should be as close together as possible. As common knowledge, the higher the frequency, the more directional. In my opinion aiming the tweeter at the listener would be better than the windshield. I was trying to find an article I read a few years ago, written by a pioneer in car audio called "Location, Location, Location". Cant seem to find it, but by your answers, you could learn a lot from it. Storm, heres the best answer you will get. Take a piece of double stick tape and attach it to the back of your tweeters. Mount it in different locations throughout your truck and listen to it. The one you like, is your answer!

most manufacturers reccommend that you mount the tweeter within 12 inches of the woofer. agreed that it should be as close as possible though ------------- RTFM

Good advice from mobilesndfx about finding the best spot through sticky tape and trial-and-error. The angle you finally decide on should be done the same way. If the tweeter pod has two screw holes, use just one of them so you can rotate the pod to find the best sound. When positioning and aiming is done, mount the tweeters as you like best. And I agree that the tweeter should be near the mid driver. That's your starting point. ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
