My gf has had this car for about 2 years and its sat stock the entire time, i start school again next spring and am going for electronics so that i can actually find a good job in the field of mobile electronics, i have been building systems since my cherokee when i was sixteen and now ive decided to go big and do everything right....as of now heres where she sits:
Alpine 9846 HU
Alpine SPS 1329 5.25 in the front door (changing out stock tweets for infinty from my first vehicle for now)
Alpine SPS 6939 6"x9" in the rear
doodiety pioneer amp with a Kicker 15" free air in a sealed enclosure

here is where im going to be by the end of the summer:
* I am going for a SQ/SPL showoff system so there will be a decent amount of fiberglass and a little plexiglass throughout the system
Alpine CDA 9856 HU
Focal 130 A1 component set for front stage

need amp for the component set

looking for well priced (kinda low on the scale) atleasat 8 band equalizer that is about half din and will fit under reciever
need 12 band equalizer to sit in trunk that will stay tuned at appropiate levels

no rear speakers

2 12" JL audio w3v3 subwoofers ina custom fiberglass/mdf sealed enclosure in the trunk

Alpine MRD m500 amplifier for the subwoofers

i have only a couple issues i would just like to here what everyone thinks of the cuurent set up and what it will be by winter

im having trouble mounting the speakers in the front door and having an issue with the tweeters
i need a way to cut out the stock tweeter mounting to house the new tweeters and the alpine screw holes dont match up to the moutning holes in the oem location of the door i know i can buy a ring that will let me attacht the speakers but im looking at an easier DIY way to mount them in the oem spot
any feed back would be appreciated ill have pictures and some status up shortly as i move through the installation
the car will be a show car but the interior and exterior and engine will be more on a JDM setup

Do you really need an 8 or 12 band equilizer?? Don't you need like an RTA or whatever it is to see what needs boosting and cutting?

my suggestions on this car......seal the metal of the rear window deck from the trunk, and use a set of 5.25 or 6.5s in the back.....and use 6.5s in the front door.....you said you are going to be glassing som stuff...I will try to pull up some pics of what I did on our doors to make 6.5's fit nicely, I will post them later today

Eliminate any kind of outboard eq, if you really must have it, upgrade to an Eclipse CD5000 or CD7000 and use the built in pink noise calibrator and the eq functions to truly zero in on what you need to accomplish.

so the reason for the eq deal is....the 12 band sits in the trunk and is only tuned once with an R/A which my old high school lets me use, along with a router, mill, metal shop etc. they are really nice to me and my electronics teacher from back in the day is always learning new stuff when he helps me with my car, it is to flatin the line and look for peaks and cuts, the reason for the second one is to be able to tune the system for different listening needs, i.e. going to the drive ins or sitting around a party using it as music, as you all know a car makes alot of noise and has many materials that absorb and reflect noise so in order to really tune your system this needs to be done its just easier and sounds better,

as for the rear deck im looking at it right now i just got done taking it apart and i might to a 6.5 fiberglassed into it im not sure yet though i might do a custom mounted component set that reflects of the back window using fiberglass and some mdf to fill that hole i just dont know if i want to seal it off

also i might be upgrading to one of the new clarions i had the 9845 when it first came out lasted me 2 years then i sold it and its still kicking and that has an excellent eq system in which case i would prolly just get one outboard eq to sit in the trunk

any takes on crossovers and if they are really needed in a system (besides with component sets)
