Hello, I am new to the forums. I am really thinking about starting a new project for my truck. Its an 89 toyota 4x4, stnd cab. Right now I have 06 sony xplod head and 2 6.5 PG octane speakers in the doors and pioneer 4 inch speakers replacing the stock ones. I want to add a multichannel amp, 50 watts rms per channel. And run the Phoenix gold speakers through the amp and through the deck using a rocker switch, thats the easy part, already now what switch I need. But what I really want to do, since i have a small truck and don't want the sub on all the time, I want to bridge the other 2 channels of the sub and control both with switches. Having two toggle or rocker swithes. Having one switch on will utilize one of the channels, and having both swithes on will bridge the channels and be kind of like a "turbo button" for the sub. I also will probably add a switch through the remote line of the amp so I can turn it off and on. I just want to know if anyone has done the sub bridged channels, that i want to do.

It sounds like what you want is a three position, double throw switch. One position is no sub, second is single channel to the sub, and the third is two channels bridged to the sub? I don't know how well this would work, but it's a good idea.

My understanding is completely different. If I am correct, you want to use both the headunit, and the 4 channel amp to power the speakers. If this is correct, do not attempt this as you will fry your equipment. If I am not understanding you correctly, please elaborate. Explain where the sub fits into all this as well. ------------- My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

You both are correct. Geepherder, how would it fry it. Im using the switch to control the signal to the speakers, either from the amp or HU, NOT BOTH at the same time. That is the easy part, except it cost 12 bucks for the switch. Austincustoms, yes you are correct, I could one switch or two switches, but lol im pretty sure 3 position and double throw are the same thing. But ya, the question is will it acually work trying to select 1 channel or 1 bridged channel, I emailed my electronics teacher, we see what he says. I need to look at a schematic of a bridged amp and the output of the amp to the input of the speaker, ive searched and cannot find one. If i see a schematic I will understand it a lot better. Man its been about 1 year and a half since ive done analog and amplifier stuff, Im a lil rusty.

the switch im using for the front speakers is called a 4PDT it stands for 4 pole double throw. so it has 4 poles per selection/position, and has 3 different selections usally on-off-on or on-none-off. If anyone needs switch help PM and I will put you in the right direction

Okay, that makes a little more sense now. 3 position and double throw are not necessarily the same thing. A common Bosch type relay is often referred to as spdt (single pole-double throw). The double throw means it has 2 positions, normally open, and normally closed. I've seen some 4pdt relays, but if you use those for switching speaker outputs, you must be carefull your amplifier doesn't exceed the ratings of the contacts. If you look through the relay section: https://www.the12volt.com/relays/page5.asp#stbm you will see a couple applications for sub setups: Stereo to Bridged Mono Switched Outputs, and Switching from Series to Parallel and Back. ------------- My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
