95’ Dodge Neon, New Deck, No signal

Hey guys,

I came upon an odd problem today. A customer came to me and said that his speakers just stopped working today. He came in I checked the deck ( an old JVC model) it powered up as it should but no signal to the factory speakers: his set up is all factory no amps just head unit power. I checked any other fuses and all were good. I removed the old deck for him and threw in a shop deck that I knew worked with the same results. I bypassed the already installed wiring kit and just spliced into the factory harness and no signal to speakers, all the power functions are fine. I removed the speaker leads to the front right speaker and popped it with my trusty 9 volt and it reacted as it should a nice little pop. What would be causing no signal to get from the deck to the speakers when there isn't any appearent path problems from one to the other?

Did you check for continuity between the harness and the speaker terminal ?

On all of the speakers. All it takes is one bad speaker or one bad speaker wiring grounding out to send the amp into protection.

It is more than likely one of the door speakers.I have seen so many of these with alot of water damage in the doors and it just destroys the speakers and the connectors.

i've had 2 Neons in the past month exhibiting no output with a shorted lead on the right front dash speaker..... i ran new wire and all was good... surprising thing tho is the whole dash sub-structure is plastic, so where the heck it's shorting to ground was beyond me.... easier to just run a new wire than spending an hour or two trying to track down the short......

did you meter the speaker wiring for a short to ground?

O O O O I know, I have seen this one more times than I care to count in these particular vehicles, esspecially if the customer is a golfer. Check the rear 6x9's for broken terminals. The little plastic clips wil often break off the basket and hang there, then the tinsel lead will ground out on the basket and send the amp into protection on the deck. However the speaker still will bump.
