hey guys to make it easier im gonna get the red end of my tester put it on the ground lead which goes on the battery whcih will be disconected from the batery and put the blackl wire from the tester to the  other end  my amp now one question if the other end that goes to my amp is jumped from a capacitor does it matter????

I assume that you are measuring the ground return resistance? If that is the case, then the answer is no.

It sounds like you're trying to make this more complicated than it needs to be.  Rob's answer was no- it doesn't matter if you have a capacitor hooked up when you measure ground resistance.  You don't need to disconnect the battery for that matter, either.  Just make sure the system is off before measuring.

Yep...as long as the circuit is not complete to the battery, the CAP won't be drawing from the meter.

touch one lead to battery's negative post
other to your amps' ground

and have the meter set to measure DC volts, and have the music turned up.. its the best way to measure circuit path resistance.

wouldnt you measure resistance in ohms?

Yes, resistance is measured in ohms, but voltage is the best way to test a ground.  Even if a ground checks okay when you "ohm it out", it can still cause a significant voltage drop under load.

that makes sense.
Do you watch the output voltage of the amp, or the output at the battery?

You watch the voltage across the ground while the system is running.  This will tell you the voltage drop.
