My headunit+signal processor currently is giving out a 4V pre-amp output and i was looking into purchasing a line driver which claims to give a 10v preamp output. will this work out if my subs are on a 10v preamp and my components are on a 4v preamp or should i hae the both the same, also i would be powering 1000/1 jl audo mono amp with 10v's will that be able to handle it?

It won't matter at all as long as you set each amplifier's gain properly.

How about the good old question, why do you feel you need one? More devices in the signal path offer more chances for the introduction of noise.

not sure on the JL's but I know almost all product will not take much more then 5-6v input.    The high end eclipse amps will take up to 8v   but I havent seen much besides that
