I was wondering one thing. from what i understand, a change in impedance makes a change in power.

The JL Audio 12W6v2-D4 is a Dual Voice Coil, 4-ohm woofer that is rated at 400w RMS.

Does the wattage change when i wire the woofer for a 2ohm and 8ohm load? If so, how do i determine the power? Thanks

The amount of power required by the woofer will not change based on how it is wired, what will change is the power out put on the amp based on what load is presented to it.

i appreciate your response but i thought the question would be basic.

this is my current setup.

Pioneer PRS-X720
Bridgeable, 2 x 100W 4 ohms or 2 x 200W 2 ohms or 1 x 400w Bridged 4 ohms.
Alpine SWR-1241D Type-R
Dual Voice Coil, 300w RMS, 4 Ohms
i am only using one alpine sub. Now i have the alpine wired in parallel to a 2 ohm load. i learned the hard way by forgetting it was DVC and i connected it to the amp bridged. So now i have it on one channel.
now, i just purchased the following...
Alpine MRP-M450 - Class D Mono Amplifier
220 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (400 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)
i was just wondering about the specs for the speaker. i was assuming by them saying "300w RMS, 4ohm subwoofer", it stated 150w per voice coil @ 4ohms for a combined of 300w. so i was wondering if there was a change in the combined power rating when the voice coils are wired in series to 8ohms or parallel to 2ohms?

To answer your other question, the power rating of a voice coil does not change based on how it is wired. The only thing that does change is the load on the amplifier, which can provide more or less power, as dwarren stated above. The voice coils don't know the difference between 150 watts at 2 ohms or 150 watts at 8 ohms. 150 watts is 150 watts.
