I have a Kenwood 12V 1000W amp and its running to a sony 12" Xplode Sub...  I know that this amp is alot of power to run to a 12" sub and I want to make sure i dont blow it by running too much power to it.  I dont want to turn it down too much though.  How should i set my amp so its safe from blowing the sub but i still get a good sound?  Right now  i have things set like so:

Bass Boost is at 6dB

Expander is ON

low pass is ON

lpf frequency (Hz) is set at 70  (min is 50, max is 200)

Input sensitivity (V) is set at 2 (min is 5, max is 0.2

Sub is bridged.

Head is a sony Xplode unit.

What should i do different?

Also they give you a black ground wire to run from the sub to the head.  Is it really necessary to run this wire?

I appreciate any input here, thanks.

Setting bass boost on, especially as high as +6 db, means that the amplifier is supplying power to that narrow bandrange at four times what it is supplying to the rest of the subfrequency spectrum.  I recommend you leave it off altogether and set up your system without it.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
