Well, I finally blew that crappy Power Acoustik Silver Edition...Melted the voice coils on it.....But this just gives me a reason to upgrade. I had the problem of not being able to truely get the full potential of my system, because I have classic Mercedes, and there's a gas tank and two metal walls seperating the trunk from the cab. I still get bass through, but the SPL was definately not sufficient. So next week im going with a Rockford P-3 12". Right now im building a ported box for it that im going to cover in vinyl. Im also going to port the trunk to the rear shelf so that the sound gets through. Should be an interesting project, i'll post up some pictures next week as it comes together......But what do you all think of my plan? ------------- '89 Mercedes-Benz 300E

Sounds like your going to be busy. Only advice I have is if plan on cutting the rear shelf, remember on most vehicles this is a major part of the structure. I am not sure on your mercedes but on the cars I have done it was. It kind of depends on how your doing this, but I figured I would remind ya. Maybe if you take some pics of your deck lid/rear shelf and post them you'll get some ideas on how to do it.

Well, I can see the rear speakers through the trunk with a flash light and theres really only one support bar I can see running across the underside. So I think im just going to run the port out where the rear speakers are and put some 6.5's in the door...Im taking it by a stereo shop later to see what they think...

Installing speakers in the rear doors will sound like **** when compared to the factory rear deck location ... Don't Do It!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - Don't cut up a classic Mercedes' doors!! Take the rear seat & rear deck out. Get a 2" or 3" holesaw. Have a blast - watch out for the Fuek Tank!! Then put the interior back together. It'll look factory, but sound better. I've done this before - it'll work. The Trunk & Passenger Compartment are seperated by the steel bulkheads due to the Fuel Tank location. Be aware that cutting holes in these steel bulkheads will put folks at risk (exposure to fuel leaks as a result of collision) in the event of a collision ... but the car will sure sound better ... -------------

Most likely ill have it port through somewhere else and leave the speakers in the stock location. If you have that first aid kit/storage compartment installed in the rear deck, why not remove that, and place it in the trunk? Then you can just build a perforated panel and cover it with carpet or grill cloth.
