Like some of you know, Im in the process of rebuilding my single 12" SQL system...I have a Kenwood KAC-9102d which is running at about 800-850w ,and Im in the process of building a new ported enclosure.  I originally wanted a Type-R 12" but the owner of the stereo shop here offered me a P3 at a pretty good price.  Now, Im not really at debate as far as the SQ goes, because with Alpine or Rockford comes nothing but the best IMO...What my concern is, is the power handling.  Alpine says the Type-R's peak handling is 1500w and the P3 is 1000w...Now, my Power Acoustik said it would handle 1000watts peak and I melted the voice coils yesterday(but of vourse thats Power Acoustik)...So my question is what do you think would be a better choice for someone who has a "Pump up the Volume" problem?  Type-R 12"...Or ...P3 12"....?  Any other sub suggestions are acknowledged too...Something under $300 preferably...

Type R's sound better than P3...about it...have heard both in sealed boxes to spec...big noticeable difference.

in ported the P3 would probably be louder but if its quality you want lol.. the the R probably would be for you.. i have known Rockford to be more vibrating loud then actual clean sound coming from em.. but hey what ever keeps the boat afloat

SQL? first off thatas a made up term. Second, by SQL im guess you want something that isnt good enough for SQ or for SPL (something in the middle? From those 2 choices id pick the type-R. a friend of mine has a P2 and i put it in a nice tight little sealed box and it still sounds loose and sloppy to me. just like my ex. WHAT?!?! lol. anyways, the power handling is not what makes a sub good for SQ. for instance, a focal 27KX is an 11" sub that only handle 350 RMS but it is extremely efficient. There are a lot of other factors that go into play when choosing a SQ sub.

hahah, real nice killer.  I got a nice chuckle out of that....After talking with a few people and geting some prices Im seriously thinking about a TC-2000 DVC. Theyre only about $300 and from what I hear, TC Sounds allready has a rep for great drivers...  As for my reference to SQL, I simply mean that I want an SPL system that doesnt just make loud noises...Im interested in doing some entry level competing in the future and I really want to buy the right sub...Ive already droped a couple hundred before and I dont want to do it again...At least with the TC-2000 I can just replace the top assembly...What do you guys think?

for you i would get the TC the rms on that alpine is only 200-500 and you said your amp is hittin at 800-850 doesnt sound like the alpine could handle it unless you bought 2 was that your plan if so then get the alpine i see more benefits if only one then get the TC seems like it could handle it but just steer away from RF nothing against them just not the best subs

Well Im actually only going to run ONE twelve, whether it was a Type-R or a TC.  So it looks to me like the TC is gonna be a better bet for a one sub setup. Especially concidering the power im running...and $300 is a small price to pay for that quality.  Hell, im paying more than that for the enclosure and sound dampening...

well put but I hope to god this was sarcasm! Dont get me wrong I have a decent SQ setup and a mild SPL setup but it involves completely different equipment. It is very possible to have the best of both worlds in one vehicle, just not with the same setup.

And as for getting my ex loose, well shes been my ex for almost 6 years now so its all good!

actually my current GF loves my system. Shes a basshead at heart. Ive only been in the car audio scene for about 3 years now so "chicks not liking bass" had nothing to do with the breakup. she was just a loose and sloppy cheating sl#t

Just ordered a pair of 10's from TC Sounds, for 300. They WILL rock your socks off, will handle all the power you already posess, and will go in a TINY enclosure. Check into them... 148 bux each. CAN'T go wrong with these drivers! They will also allow you to upgrade your amp considerably in the future if so inclined. A pair would take 800 watts all day, with 2kW as their max!

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Yeah, I hear nothing but good things about TC Sounds....I just ordered a TC-2000 12"....Cant beat the price on those things...I've allready starting on building a 4.5cf ported enclosure and Im about 1/2-way done porting my trunk...Slowly but surely its coming together nicely...As soon as I steal my girls camera ill snap a few shots of my progress...
