I love those guys! Adam is my hero! My wife has a thing for Jamie... What're ya gonna do?

When I grow up, I wanna be a myth-tern! (OK, not really, but still...)

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

"weve got 3 melodies.... its called first gear second gear and third gear."
Too bad they were only able to test first gear. I am quite impressed with their numbers though. 161DBs at 16Hz. Thats pretty crazy. The high speed footage of the woofer though was hilarious. That woofer was way off balance. lol. I did like the idea of a diesel powered woofer though. Quite creative.

what I dont understand is why they think they needed a dust cap....there was no voice coil!

That was really a truly amazing score.....I have only seen a handfull of 150's done in the 30hz range....and I have never seen anyone try to accomplish a score at 16hz!

wow if these guys would have tuned to the resonant frequency of the vehicle, it would have been really scary.

Why do you guys keep on insisting that the jackhammer is the most impressive sub ever? Most impressive PRODUCTION sub, maybe! I would be my life that a jackhammer would never do 161db at 16Hz

Very impressive considering how much they probably lost due to the uneven excursion. If they could have made the excursion more even throughout the stroke, they could have blown away the 161 mark.

They spent a decent amount of time showcasing the car audio show. It was some good pub.

You guys seriously ALL need to email them and tell them about tuning it to a higher hz and everything. If you notice, they ALWAYS revis the myths that they get alot of emails about!!! and i want a part 2, that would kick so much ass i want a diesel sub!

If they had reached 2nd and 3rd gear would it still have been 16Hz with just more output, or would they have reached a higher frequency?

Posted By: killer sonata
Date Posted: August 17, 2006 at 9:44 PM
yeah ok kirk. And how would you go about tuning something like that hmmmmm? lol. Like they said in the show, Hz is the amount of sine waves per socond. If they were able to reach second or third gear, the Hz reached would have been much higher.

Posted By: sprawl85
Date Posted: August 17, 2006 at 9:48 PM
it would have reached a higher freq because the drivetrain would have been spinning faster. Still 161 db at 14 hz or whatever it was is loving amazing. Too bad that sunroof busted out, I wanted to see some shattered windows damn it.

the sunroof only busted because the cone hit it. You can see it in the high speed footage.

If they revisit the myth they need to add a spider to their woofer. That will prevent all the wobbling the woofer was doing.

My understanding is that they were trying to prove or disprove that spl from a subwoofer arrangement could blow out a windshield. If you ask me, you throw in 30 10" subs in a similar wall like they did by taking out the seats to maximize the area for airspace, build and actual enclosure, don't use a car with a sunroof and power the crap out of it and I bet you could blow out or flat out break out a window. Just my 2 cents...

-------------
BOOSH!!

Posted By: killer sonata
Date Posted: August 18, 2006 at 10:18 PM
im sure that idea would work silvrefox, but the whole reason why they went with the diesel powered sub is so they didnt have to mess with a crapload of amps and batteries. All they really needed to do was build their woofer stronger and make it slide up and down perfectly straight and they would havve been able to get into atleast 2nd gear. That would have allowed them to produce more SPL at higher freqz which would definitely have busted the windows.

wtf, i missed the brown note episode, what happened? I had a physics teacher who told me the whols story of the professor at i forget what college, who supposidly discovered the brown note. I was told there was a patent/trademark on it that is almost up, and it could be used for science and hospitals and such.

no clue, but what happened on the episode
