I tried installing a stereo in a 93 Pontiac Grand Am. I got the power on. Shortly thereafter the stereo stops working. There is power coming through the wires so I know there is a current there. All fuses are intact. The stereo won't power up. Now there is a "ding ding" noise- like the alarm when you leave your keys turned on- that won't stop even when the vehicle is turned off. I need help ASAP. I'm short on time.

A CD Player and yes I hacked off the wiring harness(bad move on my part). I am rewiring the harness together right now.

Okay, that could explain the reason for the lights being on when the car is started. They do not deluminate. The dimmer doesn't turn them off either. How can I alleviate this matter? I've looked to see if the wires might have melted together somehow but found nothing.

Yes, it sounds like you've got your wires crossed. This could definitely cause your problem.

Did you reconnect the wires back to the factory plug for the radio? If not, do so. Your local stereo shop will have a harness for your car to connect to the new stereo's wires, and it should just plug right in.

I rewired it back to the harness and took it to have it installed by a radio shop. The idiots at circuit city just pulled the fuse out of the fuse box and the problem wasn't alleviated. Also, they didn't hook it up to where the power antenna comes up. So, no radio stations. It's useless....

I'm a little unclear what you mean about the fuse being pulled. Were they trying to fix something for you? Take your vehicle back and ask them to check about the power antenna.
