Hey,
I am trying to figure out what amp i should use to power my subs. I have 3 12" Infinity subs (the 300 rms, single voice coil, 4 ohms). I need something that will give me something at or close to 900 rms @ 3 ohms. Thinking of MA Audio, model # HK-2000D. Any input would be appreciated.

how are you looking at getting a total impedance of 3 ohms out of those 3 subs? The way I see it, you've got two choices: 12 ohms, or 1.33 ohms. ------------- Life moves pretty fast; if you don't stop and look around once in a while; you could miss it.

yeah, hes right. Look for an amp in the 1000RMS at 1 ohm area. That should be a safe 800-900ish in 1.333 ohms. I dont think youre going to get that much power at 12 ohms any way easily, and i think thats youre only bet.

oh yeah your right 1.33 ohms, But any amp suggestions? Has anybody had or heard anything good/bad about MA Audio, model # HK-2000D amp?

I agree with nouseforaname. If you're going down to 1 ohm, get a quality amp. A cheap amp will overheat too easily at 1 ohm...even if they say "it's rated" at that impedence. ------------- The Flakman

Memphis 1000D runs very cool at 1 ohm...a lot of power also.

yea, you really don't even have the option of running a 2 channel amp that is bridgable because that will drop your impedance to 0.67 or so. the other way to look at it is that if you get an OK amp that is 1 ohm stable and then parallel everything into the amp then you will be running at the above stated 1.33 ohm load which is going to be a little bit easier for the amp to operate without overheating. if you want a suggestion for a quality amp then look around for an amp named U.S. Amps. back in the day (which was a wednesday - take that home and chew it) they claimed 1/2 ohm stable and i have seen them run at 1/4 ohm stable for hours on end. i recently installed one of the US-50HC into a vehicle on 2 12" and it did really well even though the amp was about 10 or 11 years old. btw, cerwin vega "baby stroker" woofers were mother freaking awesome but only get a CV amp if you need a boat anchor lol. good luck and hope this helps. ------------- "I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think."
