Hello,

I am new to wiring car electronics but have a good background with wiring regular electrical appliances. I need help wiring a new ECD12 stereo system into the factory stereo slot(Toyota 86120-06020). I noticed when the instructions that came with the stereo said to use the existing wiring harness, the two harnesses were incompatible. I then decided to cut the factory harness and now i have the ECD12 harness ready to be wired.

I will include pictures if someone would be kind to help a man in dire need posted_image

I will attempt to explain my delay now...

According to the model...

1989 Toyota 4-Runner Camry Wiring Diagram

The new stereo instructions say...

1. Dark Blue Wire - The dark blue wire can be used to remotely activate an automatic antenna or an external amplifier.

The model wiring diagram from this site says "Right Front" How would I connect the dark blue wire to my antenna? Is the antenna a specific wire color?

2. Red Wire - Connect to 12V+ accessory.

Would I connect to the Gray or Blue / YELLOW wire?

3. Black Wire - Connect to metal part of the dash drilling a hole if necessary.

The wiring diagram states the Brown wire is the ground. Would I drill the hole or would i just connect the black and brown wires?

4. Connect to 12V+ battery terminal

Would I connect to the Gray or Blue / YELLOW wire?

5. Antenna Connector- Connect the antenna plug from the existing antenna cable.

Does this mean I don't use the Dark blue wire? They really confused me at this point.

Sorry for a very lengthy post. I appreciate any help you guys can give me.

Thank You,
Aaron

Oh, how dumb of me posted_image.

I thought cutting the factory harness out was bad. I also noticed I posted the wrong wiring diagram...

89 Toyota Camry

The harnesses had a different number of wires. old-6 to new-4 and old-10 to new-8. I had no idea i could convert it.

I think i can rewire it no problem but the 5 questions i asked need to be answered since i'm a total noob.posted_image

Yeah, I know what you mean. I can do just about anything with computer hardware and when people ask dumb questions i feel the same way.

I actually found a diagram but I'm confused

Here's what i asked... may be a little off because i posted wrong diagram, but it's the basic gist.

Thanks for the help.posted_image

Yes, your last post helped me out alot. I have one more question though. The manual suggested drilling a hole and adding a screw for the ground. Should I do as they suggested or will connecting the two wires suffice?

Once again,
Thanks.

Ok, after painfully realizing how dumb cutting the harness out was I'd have to say it was pretty easy to install the head unit.posted_image

Thanks for the help, my camry sounds so much better.
