kicker sx1250.1

okay, so i just got my sx1250.1 today, and i dont knwo what the problem is. heres a backstory:

origionally i had my 4 cvr's wired to 4 ohms and pushing about 650 watts to them with my zx1000.1 but i wanted to run them at 1 ohm so i bought this new amp. extremely excited about it

so i install it today, i use 4 gauge wire even though it says use 2-0. and wire my subs down to 1 ohm accordingly (even voltmetered em, 1 ohm, check) and i power everything up, barely any bass output. i went though all the menus, set the gain all the way up, got some bass, nowhere near as much as when i was at 650 watts. i tried almost everthing. even used the pink noise.

so i have a little bass, but thats with just about every bass enhancement on. if i turn it up my lights dim and my amp goes into protect mode probably because its pulling so much juice. even when the amp isnt turned up much, the fan is still going like crazy.

whats wrong? someone help please

Why would you do that?

becauase i have used 4 gauge up to 1500 watts many times on other installs

i was under the impression as both a mild installer and commercial electrician that you base wire gauge size off of the total pobbile amperage draw. not based on wattage as many companies do...now yes, in most cases having the wire size one below reccomended is ok, but i would personally be worried about heat, possible fire hazard, voltage drop and poor efficiency. i am sure i am just a worrier though.

Disconnect the subs and reconnect one at a time. Ensure that each subs voice coils are wired in phase as well. To me this sounds like a phase issue. If you disconnect one sub and all of a sudden you have bass response, it is indeed phase related.

There are two ypes of phase to be concerned with. Acoustically in phase and electrically in phase. If you are electrically in phase, you will be acoustically in phase. Meaning all + on all voice coils is hooked together and all - are done the same.

You can be electrically out of phase, still metering a 1 ohm load and be acoustically out of phase. Somewhere along the line a coil or sub has been wired + to - and - to +, most commony done from one sub to another or at the amplifier itself.

yeah i figured it out yesterday. what happened was i accidentally looped one of the coils on each sub. it was reading 1 ohm, but only 4 of the 8 coils was hooked up...whoops!

anyways, all is well now, its a very nice amp, extremely clean sound, its just confusing to tune
