will a slanted  back box sound better and louder than a box with a flat back?

Doesn't make a difference. Correct tuning and solid construction are what will make the box, not shape...for the most part. If you use a cylindrical box I think you have to stay under 72" long otherwise you run into dead air space at the other end...but I think I'm off on a tangent.

Yeah, there really is no difference.  The slanted box was only created to maximize enclosure volume in hatchbacks...
