I see some amps can give you more wattage with 17volt ,what do you do to get to 17volts from 12volts

There are special alternators and batteries for this purpose. Check out https://www.highoutputalternator.com/catalog/powrbank_3000_2716438.htm for complete info.  - a plug for supporters of the12volt posted_image

Yeah TheMA Audio HK4000d 3600watts rms at 14volts and 4000watts at 17volts

1: 400 watts in gain is less than .5dB in output, WELL less than .5dB. (You'd have to go all the way to 7200 watts to even hear ANY difference!)
2: You CAN do it, but you must isolate the electrical for the stereo system from the electrical system for the car. Your car's electronics AND the head unit cannot run on 17 volts, and you will fry stuff.
C: Is <.5dB worth all that work, time, and expense on a daily driver? Answer: No.

I think the matter is, regardless of the minimal power difference, It supposably CAN take 17 volts, which from what i remember on a different thread, this guys indian made SUV runs on. so reguardless of squieezing out more power, can that amp work on a 17 volt system?

Here's the thread to which I think you are referring. It's still a 12 volt system, he was asking why it occcasionally JUMPS to 17 volts...

Whether the amp can take 17 volts or not, it's still not going to be worth the effort for a daily driver...

SPL soundoffs and competitions, sure, but not for a daily driver... FAR more effort than it would be worth.

Whether or not an amp will play at 17 volts depends on the make/model iteself. For example I know that a late model Orion or PPI amp will work up to 15.5 VDC - anything above that will be cut out by an internal over-voltage protector. If you have a particular model in mind then simply contact the mnufacturer.

If an amp is in it's glory at 15.5 - that is to say that it barely heats up, signals are pure - then 15.5 could add years to it's life compared to an amp trying to huff at 11 volts and gets so hot you can bake cookies on it.

Now you just have to put a dollar value on the alt - will you spend $1/amp or shell out $2 per amp for a Powermaster?

How many watts would the amp give if your car were rolling down hill, off a cliff, and being hit by lightning at the same time???

That's not an easy one.

Unless your car is equipped with a regen braking system, rolling downhill doesn't enter the equation neither does the freefall.

Lightening however could be a determining factor.

Your signature says, "Always check info with a digital multimeter." But I don't recommend you do so in this case.

An average bolt of negative lightning carries a current of 30-to-50 kiloamperes(kA), although some bolts can be up to 120kA, and transfers a charge of 5 coulombs and 500 megajoules (enough to light a 100 watt light bulb for 2 months). However, it has been observed from experiments that different locations in the US have different potentials (voltages) and currents, in an average lightning strike for that area.

So when you said that you're driving off a cliff, what part of USA would that be in? It will aid us in being more precise.

I am not going to go into that one. Let's just say I was a bad boy and now I am better.
You think it is a slow day, I had my tonsils ripped out yesterday. I am having a slow week.
