I just finished upgrading a 93 Explorer Limited JBL system. Including the headunit, factory amps, and factory speakers.

I'm now going to get started on a '01 Tahoe.  It doesn't have a the bose system but it does have a subwoofer.  Anybody know the location of the factory amplifiers, if any (so they say behind the glove box)?Any color codes or harnesses available for this? It has onstar but its not going to be used, is it ok to just not plug it in or is the onstar harness absolutely necessary?...last but not least, I know some GM vehicles required relocating the factory head unit, is that the case with these trucks?

Any kind of heads-up from the 'been there, did that' guys would be appreciated.

UNDER DRIVERS SEAT is where the amp is stated to be oin one of my install database. The OnStar is not necessary to be used and if your not concerned about this option then you won't need the OnStar adaptor. The relocation module is necessary for this vehicle though.

This is not an RDS radio, do I still need the relocation harness?  I believe thats 2003 and up Full-Size trucks.  Under driver seat? Haven't heard that one yet, so far I got its behind the glove box or worst case scenario, inside the center console.

docsautomotive: Some new GM (maybe others as well) vehicles use the stock HU as the hub computer for all kinds of things in the vehicle. This makes it so that you cannot remove the unit from the vehicle. You need the relocation harness that allows you to extend the cabling so that you can mount the HU somewhere hidden and out of the way. This way you can install an aftermarket HU.

I'm not sure...but aren't there some now that you can't even relocate the HU?
