there are 3 different delco electronics radios that luminas were shipped with (radio only, tape, and cd). i have the bare minimum (radio only) and was wondering if an easy swap could be made(ie are harnesses the same). also, my radio does not have theft lock. the possible one i would be swapping does. how would this affect things? thanks for your help. if the harnesses were the same that would make a big difference.??.

start with the basics... what year  and exact model is your vehicle?

what year and exact model is the radio you wish to install out of??    this will determine whether the Theftlock circuit will be an issue or not....

The theft lock is just to keep the stereo from working on another vehicle unless you put the code. I have a 96 monte carlo(same as the lumina) and I did the same thing I upgraded to a stck cd player and it have the theft lock activated, got the lock form the person who sold it to me and problem fixed. Now I just have a KDC-X889 in there and the cd player is siting in my garage, can't even remember the password now, hahaha.

my lumina is a 96, and the current radio that came with it does not have theft lock. where would the code for a theftlock radio be found? in the manual? so i can just swap a theftlock radio with mine as long as i know the code?

As long as the Factory cd player does not have the theftlock activated you can just swap the stereos no problem, but if it does, then you have to know the code and no the manual would not tell you the code. You have to get it either online somewhere or the dealer.

keep in mind this applies only to the older non-class II radios... the new ones need to have the vehicle VIN burned into the radio.... which is why i asked about model year, etc....

for the 96 it's not an issue unless the one you put in has a code in it, in which case it will have to be unlocked and purged....
