What's the deal with mounting the sub w the magnet out, as opposed to inside the box? Are the any benefits or detractions? thanks in advance

no real benefits besides aesthetics except the box doesnt have to be as big -- no woofer displacement.

Though even with displacement. Many subs only take up about 1/10 of a cubic foot of space. Not much in the grand scheme of things.
