My subs seem to pop extremely loud when I first turn my vehicle on in the mornings.Just curious as to what could be causing this and if it is damaging my subs?

Ground problem...or crappy amp...could be something else

Most amplifiers employ a delay turn on circuit to prevent that from happening.  It sounds like your amplifier doesn't employ such a device.  It shouldn't cause any damage unless there is a large mis-match of amplifier power to mechanical power handling of the speakers.

I suppose I may check the ground first. As far as the amp it is far from crappy, its an old school Kenwood Kac-1023.I just couldn't imagine an amp of this caliber not having a delay turn on circuit.Maybe it doesnt though who knows.

It's not a question of quality.  It just depends on whether the company decided to include that circuit.  A/D/S/ amplifiers didn't employ one of those circuits IIRC and they are very highly reguarded.

I had this same problem with my setup. But what was weird is that when i changed out my headunit the popping magically disappeared. everything else remained the same.

David,

that's probably because you're gains weren't set properly, and the new headunit had a lower voltage output, which better matched the amp.
