planning new setup

Hi all.
I am working on a project truck of mine. An 86 silverado.
I am trying to put together a decent "budget" system in it.
Right now I have a panasonic cd player w/ pod control,
an old school alpine 3555 (50x4), and a new soundstream xta600.5 (45x4,+120x1)
I'd prefer to use just the 5 channel soundstream due to limited space, and maybe ebay the alpine or something.
I am thinking of putting a set of components in kick panels up front, and maybe another set for behind the seat in cab corners. I want to put a sub or subs in a box behind the seat. If I went with two subs, what's the best way to wire it up, or should I just get a single sub? I'm not a big "bass" fan, so mega-huge loud bass is not what I am after. I listen mainly rock, maybe once in awhile some old skool rap.

i would use the 5 channel.  go with one 10 inch sub like a kicker compvr or jl w3.  go with a sealed box since it sounds like you want clean tight bass.

Yup, use one single 10" or 12" driver. Your amp should be stable to 2 ohm mono on the sub channel. (check to be sure though). If so, look to the Pioneer Premiere shallow mount driver due to the rather limited depth available for a proper enclosure behind the seat. Ignore the need for kick panels. If you want to keep it simple, put the tweeter into the stock 3.5" location on the top corners of the dash. The midbass driver can easily go into the door, about 5" back from the front of the door, down low where the door indents. It must be 5" back from the front as that is where the steel reinforcing is behind the sheet metal. It is a rather simple process to make a small panel to attach to the bottom of the door and properly mount the speaker there.

As far as the rear speakers go, there are aftermarket 6x9" mounting adaptors available for this vehicle. American International I believe make them, they should bolt right into place.

For the amp.....take back the Soundstream. The Alpine is actually rated at 55w rms x 4 but produced way more power than that. It is also way better built than the Soundstream could ever hope to be. If it were me and I came a cross a amp like that 3555, I would be looking for a matching old school amp to go with it.

ya, I had a punch 150hd...
it was blown a couple years ago, been sitting in garage since. Took it a few eeks ago to get fixed locally, they said they could not get the part to fix it...bummer. So I'm $30 into my blown amp for diagnostic charges.
I think the ss 5 channel will do what I need.

Could try looking at Elemental Designs SQ10 subwoofer...also another shallow mount subwoofer
