I have an Alpine MRD-F450 with a pair of Alpine Type R 6 1/2" components and a pair of Alpine Type R 5x7 components.
I tried installing the amplifier and i got NO SOUND.
Now i am not a rookie at this, i checked my wiring in the car and everything was correct. Settings on my Head Unit (Sony CDX-GT500) are normal. I already had the speakers amped by RF P3002's for each pair. I went with this 4CH Amp to clean up and match the installation products.
What i did was, i brought the amplifier and speakers into my house. I have a charged 12v Battery where i have a Pioneer DEH-P6500 wired up to it. Already have fused amp wires and radio is fused. I use this to test my equipment.
I wired up the Alpine 4CH Amp, and then the speakers. I matched the Rear Out, Front Out RCA's with the Rear/Front RCA Inputs on the amp.
I wired the crossovers with the speakers correctly.
The amp is wired with 8GA power and ground cable with a 60A fuse.
The remote turn on lead is connected.
The radio turns on, the amp turns on, but the speakers have no sound.
I raised the radio's volume to 45 / 62 (3/4 of the way). Still Nothing.
So I began to raise the front and rear gain until I got to the "Nominal" gain setting marked on the Alpine amp. I began to hear a little sound, but very low.
I grabbed my DMM and I measured the speaker's output to 0.06 Volts AC.
I then began to raise the gain even more, and i began to hear distortion. But the sound quality is barely at a whisper.
So again to test it even more, i wired the sub (RF P215S) that i had wired to the previous amp (Pioneer PRS-X720) to CH3 and CH4 bridged (200w @ 4ohm)
The subwoofer was also at a whisper. What is going on?

You need to START by plugging a known good source into the amp. I suggest an mp3 player or something like that. If you have output, then it's your deck... simple as that. Still no output? Amp is shot, and needs servicing.
60mv is not any kind of output to speak of at all... The transistors inside can bleed that much just being on.

It is most likely the amplifier if the problem is present regardless of which head unit you use. I had an Alpine MRD605 that did the same thing. The amp fired up just fine and I tried various sources. I got very little audio but the noise floor was present. The signal out from the amp was also millivots. I was surprised, I've owned several Alpine amps and have always had good luck. The funny thing was I was only running the amp at 4ohms, it wasn't even breaking a sweat. Oh well, win some lose some.
haemphyst... i turned my dmm to AC and measure the negative and positive channels of the speakers output. i got a .06 v reading.
if i had a 200 watt speaker at 2 ohms, i would set the gain so i got a reading of 20v, right or wrong?
plus, when i wired my other amp, everything works. just wanted to make sure it was the amp.
