Have a Cherokee with a poineer head unit with stock speakers. I decided i wanted to upgrade the front door speakers to a pair or Crystal Mobilesound 6.5s that i had from my previous vehicle. They were powered by an expternal amp in my previous setup. They were in perfect working condition when i removed them from my last car 2 years ago. They sat in the closet for that time.  I decided to power them with my head unit in this application. I removed the stocker and plugged in the crystal which came with an external crossover which i also used. the highs sound fine but theres no bass. The cone moves but doenst produce bass. It doesnt rattle like a blown speaker, it just doesnt produce bass. It does distort if i turn it up semi loud. I thought they were phased wrong, but that changed nothing. I tried eliminating the crossover, that did nothing.  I changed all the crossover points on the headunit, that did nothing.

Did you mount the new speakers or are they sitting out in free air?

Also (sorry, but have to ask) did you change the phase on just one speaker at a time or both at the same time?

The bass response of your new speakers may just not be as good as the bass response of your stock speakers.

I tried playing them in free air and mounted. I didnt replace the door panel though. Would that act as an enclosure?

I only hooked up one and i just changed the phase on it.  I had these speakers hookup up previously and they had verry good bass response but they were hooked to an amp

You mentioned a crossover in the deck. Did you bypass it completely? It should not be engaged at all, as you are using 1: the internal deck amplifier, and 2: supplied external passive crossovers.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
