I have my IPOD connected to the Alpine 9857 via the new ipod connection. The output to the speakers is really low. I have to jack up the volume more than 3/4ths of the way up to hear it. Is anyone else having this problem? CD/Tuner/Sirius output is fine.

Thanks!

I have seen the same issue with iPODs. Because the iPOD has its own independent volume control and the output is made for headphones, that may be the reason. I don't know if that changes when using a dock, though you still control the volume with the iPOD as well. I'm not sure how the interface deals with input level matching if it does at all. My thought is that you would have that problem regardless of the device simply due to the separate volume controls.

on some HUs you can adjust the input volume per source. See if that could be the case here

Make sure the volume on the ipod is turned all the way up. Just use the head unit to adjust the volume from there.

Thanks guys. I tried to turn the volume all the way up on the IPOD. It does not matter if they IPOD volume is at 0 or 100%. Output is the same. Also, the head unit willl only store Sirius stations in preset 1 and 2.  3 - 6 will not stay memorized. i.e if I program channel 30  in preset 3 and then turn the car off, the preset goes back to the channel 184 default. However, it will work immediately after programming. Unit was purchased in June and came from Crutchfield.

Does your iPOD connect using the headphone jack or does it use the connector on the bottom?

Also, does anyone know if an iPOD gives line out when using the connector on the bottom? If so, that would explain it.

Does the HU store all of your other presets for AM, FM, bass, trebble, etc? If not, it would sound like a wiring issue. It if does keep those settings, I would contact Crutchfield and find out what they can do for you.

It is connected via the alpine 1 wire connection from the bottom of the IPOD to the back of the CD Player.

Also, yes, all the other settings are stored for memory. Just Sirius that will not. I wonder if I have a bad head unit. Maybe they'll let me trade it out for something else, because this head unit really blows.
