 My radio needs a 1k ohm resistor on the power, what watts do I use. After a trip to radio shack, the .5watt 1kohm is a bit small. any ideas? I have found them up to 25 watt and many inbetween. Large to small. The radio is a 35x4 panasonic.

watts == amps x volts

I found it on the web

2.5x12== 30 watt resistor @ 1k ohm

I thank me for helping me :)

why does it need a resistor?

I, too am very much interested in why you need a resistor.

Let 'me' know that s/he got it wrong <grin>... to calculate wattage of a resistor you multiply the current through the resistor with the voltage *drop* across the resistor..  In addition to that, it's an impossibility to push 2.5 amps through a 1k ohm resistor with only 12 volts..

What are you trying to do?..
