will reversing the box, pointed toward the back in the trunk, with a ported box gain db?? or should i point the box toward the roof in the back seat? which would work better? i want to do this to enter a few more contests and hit higher. Right now its only 143.4, it would hit harder in a different car and bigger box, but i am limited right now. anyone know?

im not exaclty sure with ported but yes sealed boxes hit louder when reversed. your best bet would be to just try it and see what you like, since its totally up to you.

The effect you want takes a lot of things into mind.  What kind of car?  What subs?  All cars react differently to sound.  Some are better with the boxes facing different ways.  There are so many things that can come into play.  I suggest trying the box in different directions.  I'm assuming that the car is sound deadend and the box is securely mounted right?  There are so many things that you can to do get a little more out of your system.  The most important question is,  what are the subs and the box?  The car would be helpful to know too.

Agreed. I always found that my sealed enclosures hit harder and sounded better when reversed. I've run them in hatchbacks, coupes and SUV's.

Along with directional position also expirement with locational position (move the box farther or closer to the back of the trunk.)

4ohm DVC's rated at 400RMS 1200Peak

What amp are you running?
How do you have the subs wired? (ohm level at the amp)
What AWG cable are you using?
Have you upgraded your alternator?
Have you upgraded the wiring from your alternator to the battery?
Are you running multiple batteries?

well right now i have a 98 cutlass olds, not really wanting to get into anything tech with it till iget another car. I am looking to get a 2 door ford escort hatch. My gauge is 4 i think and 1 ohm stable, but not for sure my audio guys do the work. i dont tuch the stuff to keep my waranty. i have a legacy dvd/mp3 player. I am losing db there i know, but i am getting a clarion cd player. i have 2 hifonics brutus
BXi 1606D1600-Watt x 1 RMS @ 1-Ohm
amps. the box is smaller than needed cause i ave limited trunk space, even with the box built into the trunk. I hit 143.4 when the trunks open, lower when its closed, around 142.3 i think. so for the time being i decided to take them and turn them around to see a difference. maybe also the backseat dont know. the cd player skips when i have the system up due to it being sensitive. but i am not worried about that for now till i get another car

Here's a good article regarding sub pointing https://www.installer.com/tech/aiming.html. It's always good to experiment with different angles and directions, though. Acoustics of the vehicle in question can affect the final outcome as well. The article makes some very good points and has graphs that show the difference in SPL.

well first off i measurd mine a lot of different times and it did gain for some reason. I have a 12 volt battery but at the amps it putting out 16 volt due to my alternator, but its factory weird huh. Last night i took it out of my trunk and stuck them in my backseat angling them up, but i was not impressed. plus i noticed the boxes top screws had vibrated a opening on the front all the way across. Thats one thing that has happened alot is screws popping out

To keep the screws in, I suggest putting a little Gorilla Glue in the hole the screw will be in. It has helped me and people I know in the past.

Yea definitely put some glue of some type in the screw holes. I shook the top off of a bandpass box once because the screws worked out of the plexi-glass *laughing*

If it is a custom made box, you may also want to consider running a bead of glue along the seams as well to help keep the wood together, then screwing it together.

Screws alone are not recommended for box building...especially with drywall screws. They can strip out MDF pretty good...always use glue in the seams.

I DO like the gorilla glue as well. It stays nice and rubbery, even after time. I keep a good stock on hand at all times.

i went and had my system reversed turning towards the back of the trunk and the amp plus the battery. the battery measured out alittle over 14. He said they had a bad battery in the meter which threw it off. To my disappointment, oh well. I only hit a 142.0 then my meca cd started skipping cause the cd plyer is sensitive. but I noticed a huge increase overall. 142 for this weather may pit me at a 145 in the summer or better no real way to tell though. the best i have hit so far was 143.4. but the pressure difference was better now then then.
