I'm looking for some advise....

I have just recently purchased a rockford T15004 amplifier.  This particular amp calls for a 0 guage power wire.  I plan to run a kenwood p707 component set and a pair of cerwin vega vmax 10.2 subs.  I own a 2001 honda civic and I plan to upgrade the big 3...but what worries is whether my alternator will be able to provide sufficient power to this amp

Does anyone know what this alternator is rated.   What should I do....upgrade or re-coil my alternator and change my battery to a deep cycle? Does changing the battery really do much?  I'm trying not to spend a fortune on this but I think I may have crossed this line by buying this amp.

I hope someone can give me some options.. it would be most appreciated

thanks

If the lights dim when the bass hits then the alternator isn't able to produce the power needed. That's always a sure-fire way to tell if you need a high-output (HO) alternator.

Run a search in this forum on "red top" and/or "yellow top" for info on the battery.

Sorry I can't be more help.

changing the battery does squat. the sole purpose of the battery is to start your car.

Once the vehicle is running your alternator now has to supply power to whatever the stock demand was, all the aftermarket stuff you installed, PLUS, the additional battery.

If your exsiting battery is able to start your car in the morning, it should be ok.

I would reccomend the "big three" as well but no one has told me what that is yet.

So for as far as i can help..using basic ohms law...make sure your power demands are not exceeding 120% of your alternators rated output, and make sure your wire gauge is up to task.

If you are one of those people that like to play your audio system while the car is not running for long periods of time, a deep cycle can be helpful since unlike standard batteries it will not be damaged by continual charging and discharging. Basically you can expect a longer life.

But there is no magic box to solve the problem of a charging system that is not up to task.

if I am wrong forgive me as I am drunkednessed

lol, there is a sticky on what your big 3 is and how to upgrade it. its quite possibly the cheapest thing to do to increase power output. i have to upgrade my big 3 again since my 740 watt amp still makes my headlights flash under heavy bass. any factory electrical system should be able to handle a this. headlights might dim alittle bit but you'll have that. btw dont buy a cap as they do nothing.

55A hot, is what that alternator is rated. Alterstart has a 165A model, about 300.00. Drop in replacement.

For that amp, I'd recommend a shop fab you a bracket for a large case GM alternator, and I'd recommend you start with a 200A version of one of those. The large cases are capable of up to 300A output (I think).

As for battery, I'd recommend a pair of Optima red-tops, or a Kinetik battery - start with the 800.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Thank you jonathan, I will check out that sticky.

I was not myself last night. had a bit tee many martoonies.

I thought I could still give decent advice but if posting while intoxicated was a misdemeanor, I'd be doing 20 to life right now.

Good thing I don't make a habit of it nor reccomend it to anyone. Just had a weak moment.

Thanks again.
