The pink wire at the amp in the trunk is the remote turn on wire.

I didn't think the 2002 Monsoon system had a remote turn on lead ? My experience has been that these are databus controlled.

Just use the same harness as you would for the standard radio. The Monsoon system will accept high level inputs from your new unit just fine. I agree with Jeff, I don't remember an amp turn on either. The amp powers on once it's fed an audio signal.

To clarify this, there are 3 different systems available for these cars. You can have a radio and 6 speakers, or a radio with an amp and speakers ( the amp drives the rear full range speakers and subwoofers - uses dual voice coil 6x9 speakers), or the Monsoon system, which has a radio and amp (amp drives all speakers). The Monsoon system has a radio turn on wire (pink) and the other system uses a speaker level signal to turn the amp on. To tell the difference between the two amplified sytems, check the option code sticker under the spare tire cover. The Monsoon option is U85 and the other amp system is UQ3. I hope that clears up the confusion.

There is no code for your 2002 Sunfire. The radio reads the vehicle serial number from the BCM when it turns on. If the number matches what is programmed into the radio, it will turn on. If the radio hasn't been set-up in the vehicle with a GM Tech II scan tool to learn the VIN, then the radio will lock. You can unplug your radio anytime you need to. All you need to do is re-set the clock afterwards.

best buy, circuit city, or any local audio store...your car is gonna need the DCGM09 harness w/ is for data retention/chimes...which will run ya about $120....easy way to tell if you need the harness is take out the factory radio...put the key in and see if you still have the warning chimes...if you do, you dont need that plug...if so ...your gonna need the $120 harness

EDIT: didnt read the first page...w/ the monsoon system ..im not 100% but im sure you have to bypass the factory amp..of you do this yourself its a few packs of speaker wire and some time...if you take it to a shop its about $100 in labor

I can't tell you what harness you need, but I can tell you that the airbags do not run through the factory radio. That's just a common misconception.
