Ok, say I get an eclipse avn7000 or a pioneer avic-n2, do I have to subscribe to something for the gps to work, or is it as simple as hooking up the antenna, and putting it up under the dash to where it isn't obstructed by metal and I'm good to go?

No subscription for GPS..only satellite radio and onstar.

You are good to go.

sweetness, thanks for the quick response man. And has anyone used the nav on both of the units I listed? Is the eclipse one superior somehow, he probably doesn't need all of the audio features of the eclipse unit. Just stock audio equipment, so unless the nav is a crapload better than the pioneer, I am going to recommend the pioneer to him.
